SUMMARY

The philosophical problem of the existence of a moral order is a minefield full of difficulties in itself and with solutions that are often seen as politically loaded. In the first part of this text, I present several most common philosophical arguments against the objective existence of the moral order. In the second part I explain Thomas Aquinas’ standpoint on the existence of the moral order and briefly suggest some directions in which one may formulate answers to the objections. Of course, we will not find answers to all of the contemporary concerns in Aquinas’ writings, but many of his observations might be helpful in finding such answers.
